To add one more idiosyncratic staple to the state of Texas, we bring you Bob’s Pickle Pops. Made from pressed pickles and pickle juice, the birthplace of this unique popsicle is the “Outerskate Rollerink” in Seguin, a town 35 miles east of San Antonio.
For two years the Outerskate rink owner, John Howard, and his brother-in-law web designer, David Millar, sold the popsicles by squirting the concoction into packets and closing them individually with a heat sealer. Texas based Specialty Brands has taken over the manufacturing process, helping catapult the brand into a Texan craze.
Whether featured on “the Food Network” in 2008 or seen in the frozen section of Texas’ H-E-B (Here-Everything’s-Better) supermarket chain, the success of these pops prove that a pickle craving is not just for pregnant women anymore.
Keep a lookout for these salty yet tart frozen treats as distributors are clamoring to transform them from a state secret into a national favorite.
