For the last five years during South by Southwest we’ve distributed Off the Wookie magazines to over 25,000 people in Austin, Texas. This year, we’re gearing up for our sixth installment. OTW is our “super fun happy motivate manual for joy making.” Past stories include how to shoot stop-motion pictures, notes from a cross-continental road race, a guide to the largest pinball machine collection in the world, a night spent with a real-life superhero, the perfect recipe for Kool-Aid pickles, and Dave Gooch’s adventures in lazy man’s home brewing.
This year we’re returning to our roots with a “How To” theme. If you don’t have an amazing tale to tell, then just think of all the great stuff you’ve discovered over the past year and show us and our readers how to do build/do/dance/find something amazing! Please send your how-to guides, articles, short stories, illustrations, comics, photojournals and anything else you can think of along the lines of do-it-yourself fun to wookie@icecreamman.com.
Questions about guidelines and image attachments should go to wookie@icecreamman.com as well. If you have any doubts about your story ideas or need to run them by us before embarking on the creative process, just shoot over an e-mail. Due to a high volume of submissions, not every story will make the print edition but will be published at www.offthewookie.com.
