It’s midnight on Sunday and Pitchfork wrapped up a couple hours ago with Pavement. I didn’t get to sing Happy Birthday on stage, like at Sasquatch, but their set still got me dancing. We had hoped to make it back to the late-night Bitchpork festival across town to catch Psychedelic Horseshit with Times New Viking but we need to hit the road east in the morn and we’re still riding high from seeing White Mystery and The Crown and Two Chairmen at Bitchpork the night before.
Pitchfork Festival was riding high with it’s fifth anniversary and we’ve been happy to be a part of all of them. On Friday we gave away almost 2000 ice creams and didn’t get to check out much music. I’d like to say we made up for it on Saturday but I had to get up early to restock on cream and dry ice and the onslaught continued. The backstage area holds a couple thousand people and we constantly had a line a dozen deep at the truck. We closed up early to save some cream for Sunday then headed over to Bitchpork to let loose. My favorite party last year was dancing my ass off to Times New Viking at Bitchpork and we had high hopes going in…
We climbed the stairs to find The Crown and Two Chairmen playing. We all lit up and cracked a Port Brewing Anniversary Ale to celebrate. Next we headed up stairs to sling some cream from the bar that was shaped like an ice cream truck and to rock out to White Mystery. After a trip to the roof to hang out for a bit we called it a night because we had one more day of Pitchfork ahead and Sunday had the best lineup.
We set up our Sunday HQ at the Bottom Lounge. Oberhofer came over to play a couple of songs which was rad especially as Brad brought over a couple friends from Bear in Heaven and Neon Indian to join him. A few hours later Kurt Vile and Real Estate made the trek to Bottom Lounge. It’s funny how things come in waves and Sunday was definitely a great day for music. While Kate and I were putting down some Founder’s and Bell’s brews and eating some lunch at Bottom Lounge Sharon Van Etten stopped by the truck and did an a cappella song that I’m bummed I missed.
It’s now one in the morning and I’m half way through Joe Dirt. Thanks to everyone who made the weekend possible, we’ll be back in a few weeks for Lollapalooza!
