I love SXSW, but sometimes there are just too many bands to see, entrance lines are ridiculously long and after some drinks under the hot sun your motivation to move locations drops significantly. I call this the beer/sun/time curve. Especially when you’re relaxing on the lawn at the French Legation, one of my favorite venues. This year our friends atDig For Fire teamed up with New York’s Other Music to feature two great days of artists including James Blake, Ted Leoand !!! (chk chk chk).
Here is a quick re-cap of my favorite parties and performances from this years festival:
Parties:
Dig For Fire/Other Music at French Legation
Fader Fort by Fiat
M for Montreal/Brooklyn Vegan at Swan Dive
Mint Records at Headhunters
Mess With Texas at East Side Drive In
Stereogum at Purevo
Artists:
Boy and Bear – Folk Rock from Australia who are taking US by storm.
Little Scream – Singer-songwriter from Montreal whose new album is a must have.
!!! – Best disco punk dance off ever.
Matt and Kim – Most energetic band out there.
Audra Mae – Stunning vocalist.
Owen Pallett – Violin, keys, and vocals looped into a beautiful medley. Another great Canadian.
Colin Stetson – Sax player who will blow your mind with his circular breathing techniques including some beat boxing.
Twin Shadow‘s acoustic performance to raise awareness for www.MyMusicRX.com.
Nardwuar with Andrew WK – I can’t remember the last time I had this much fun at a concert. Nardwuar is a true performer.
