I spent last week up in San Francisco slinging a whole lot of Ben & Jerry’s Chocolate Fudge Brownie Shorty Cups. Normally we have a mix of about eight B&J treats but our order got mixed up so we ended up with more chocolate than we’ve ever had on the truck before. Luckily it’s my favorite flavor that comes in the shorty cups, so I wasn’t complaining.
The main reason for heading up was to check out SF MusicTech and to hopefully sling some cream at Kabuki Hotel where the summit was taking place. I woke up early on Sunday to race up I-5 so that I could give away some ice cream at the SF Music Hack Day that was going on at Tokbox. I had a perfect spot out front and we gave away a good amount of treats but I wish I would have been able to see more demos of the hacks. There’s a whole list of them here.
We got really lucky on Monday to get the truck into prime position at the summit. Camino did some schmoozing with the main valet guy and for the measly price of $40 for parking and a $10 tip we got parked front and center so everyone got a glimpse of us as they came and went. On top of that there was a one-minute elevator pitch session and I got to hype up the cream and told people to stop by. The weather couldn’t have been better and a bunch of the ice cream crew (Kevin, Camino, Paige and Doug) showed up to help and checks things out. Francisco from The Ferocious Few even hung out for a bit and played some acoustic tracks in front of the truck. I’m looking forward to catching up with him again this summer and to do some fun stuff in the woods… more on that later. Things couldn’t have gone much better, Thanks Brian for having us.
A few days before I took off I got an email from Ben at Ticketfly about a party they were throwing that night. When I saw the invite and they had Ghostland Observatory and Hood Internet playing at the tiny Rickshaw Stop, I immediately confirmed we’d be there and got a parking spot set aside right out front. The show was a blast and they brought their whole laser show setup, the one they use for venues that are 5 times larger. What a dance party.
The rest of the week I bopped around town slinging at Zynga, Modcloth, Eventbrite, YouTube, Simplegeo, and a couple other spots. The sun stayed out most of the time and everything went smoothly. Doug and I even scored free bleacher seats to a Giants game that they won in the bottom of the ninth.
Thanks to Camino and Jaemee for the place to crash. Brian for SF MusicTech, the MusicHack folks, and all the folks that helped setup the socials. Now let’s just cross our fingers we can get some sponsors on board for this summer so we can hit Sasquatch Festival in a couple weeks.
